What Clients are Saying
"Patricia was retained to help us fight the school's intention to deny our son's IEP because of good academics. Our son, who is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and inattentive ADHD, still needed the IEP to help him with social skills, motor skills and stress/anxiety prevention skills. Patricia's preparation, strong advocacy and concise communication enabled our son to keep his IEP in middle school and in high school. We are very grateful to have a reliable, patient and understanding advocate."
"Tricia is excellent at communicating with all team members in a professional manner. This took so much pressure off of me as mom. Tricia's support during the IEP process allowed me to focus on my son's needs rather than having to become an expert in legalities and negotiating tactics."
"If you want to hire the best advocate for your child hire Tricia Palguta because she has the compassion of a loving mother but in addition she has extensive training. Tricia is extremely detailed and timely in her responses to time sensitive matters. I have been advocating for my sons since they were in Kindergarten and have worked with the best and worst advocates. Tricia is the BEST you will find which will allow you to sleep at night knowing you have done everything possible to help your child obtain an education."
"I am grateful to be working with Tricia. Before working with Tricia, the IEP meetings for my son were full of conflict and stress. Tricia has greatly helped to improve our IEP work at the school. She knows the IEP process and has given support to me and my son in getting his educational needs met. Another part of working with Tricia that I find incredibly valuable is getting to meet with Tricia before IEP meetings and getting to debrief with her after the IEP meetings. Tricia gives great guidance and support that has benefited me and my son. Prior to working with Tricia I felt alone in the IEP process and now, with Tricia, I know I am not alone."
"Thank you so much [for] your kind, considerate, and very competent help. I am grateful to have found you."
"It was a huge relief to have your support and knowledge...I don’t know how you do it, but you’re amazing. You are the best advocate I have ever worked with."
"I am eternally grateful for your services. It is mentally such a big deal to have your rock solid expertise and clear headed thinking by my side in these meetings. I tell everyone your services are the best money I ever spent and it is no exaggeration. I hope you realize what a blessing you are to parents like me."
Background and Experience
Tricia Palguta has nine years of experience dealing with school districts in San Diego and Orange Counties as a Special Education Advocate and as a mother to a daughter with Down syndrome. Tricia's daughter was the catalyst for her change in careers, from a stay at home mother who left law to raise her children to a Special Education Advocate. After experiencing the frustrations of dealing with the school district and the denial of services needed by her daughter, Tricia enrolled in the Special Education Advocacy Training course at the University of San Diego to learn more about her daughter’s rights in the school system. She quickly discovered that there were many things that parents do not know, and are not told, about their children’s rights and the different supports and services available to children with special needs. Tricia completed an Internship at the San Diego YMCA COMPASS Special Education Advocacy clinic advocating for underprivileged families with special needs children. She decided to continue to help parents ensure that their children receive the supports and services they are entitled to in order to access their education and succeed.
Tricia puts your child first, while working collaboratively with the school district. She believes in a child-centered approach in which the team works together for the best interests of the student. She understands that the process can be emotional and she is there to support and guide you to the best outcome for your child. She is passionate about helping families navigate the system so their children can access their education while sharing her knowledge so parents can continue to fight for their children throughout their time in school.
Please note that Tricia does not give legal advice and she is not licensed to practice law in California. Any and all advice is provided in her capacity as an advocate, not as an attorney.
